Requirements and skills

  • Proven experience as a Data Scientist or Data Analyst
  • Experience in data mining
  • Understanding of machine-learning and operations research
  • Knowledge of R, SQL and Python; familiarity with Scala, Java or C++ is an asset
  • Experience using business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau) and data frameworks (e.g. Hadoop)
  • Analytical mind and business acumen
  • Strong math skills (e.g. statistics, algebra)
  • Problem-solving aptitude
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field; graduate degree in Data Science or other quantitative field is preferred

About the Job:

Motive is looking for Research Scientist(s) and Engineer(s) to design, develop, and build computer vision and machine learning technologies for driver and fleet safety systems for our 470K+ drivers and 90K+ fleets. You will work on hardware/software products enabled by the AI/ML technologies you build.

As a Research Scientist, you will own and drive the key vision and machine learning product components and services, building solid AI products, deploying them at scale, and solving a very meaningful problem.

Motive’s perception team is responsible for building the core machine vision components that enable Motive’s AI products. The team is responsible for 3 main areas: 1. Researching and building new ML Models and novel Vision algorithms to enable Motive AI Products. 2. Deploying the models and maintaining the performance of models in the field 3. Owning and deploying the deployment of the ML models and vision algorithms on embedded devices to enable AI on the Edge.

What You’ll Do:

  • Research and prototype novel computer vision algorithms and deep learning models
  • Improve the performance of our models and algorithms already in production
  • Convert research prototypes into production systems and AI products
  • Collaborate with other researchers and engineers in cross-functional teams to develop experiments, prototype, analyze results, figure out how well a particular algorithm or a model is performing in the field, and propose solutions.
  • Solve challenging object detection, segmentation, recognition, depth/distance estimation, and geometric computer vision problems.

What We’re Looking For:

  • PhD in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, or related field
  • Hands-on experience with training frameworks and tools (TensorFlow | Pytorch | Caffe)
  • Proven track record of innovation and achieving significant results, demonstrated by first-authored top-tier publications at conferences such as CVPR, ICCV, and ECCV
  • Strong programming skills in Python or C++
  • Strong communication skills. The ability to explain the analysis, complex computer vision/ML concepts to a broad technical audience
  • Balance building highly accurate and advanced solutions and swiftly shipping things to production
  • Keep pace with advancements in Computer Vision and Deep Learning relevant to our activities
  • Experience driving a research prototype to a scalable production system is a strong plus.

Project Summary:

CABI Regional Bioscience Centre (RBC) Pakistan has initiated a study entitled “Baseline study to identify potential threats to agrobiodiversity and opportunities for its conservation in potato landscape”. Main objective of this study is to understand the current situation of biodiversity in potato growing areas of Punjab, previous and ongoing interventions around the issue, gaps and needs of each focused area including agro-forestry, rotation cropping, IPM, integrated soil fertility management practices, restoration practices. This study will help to improve potato sector in country particularly in Punjab province through identification of gaps at each level and capitalizing opportunities with realistic and sustainable recommendations in form of pilot and scale-up interventions.

Position Summary:

The consultant will work in close coordination with the project manager CABI to carry out following tasks;

  • Participate in inception meeting and support to develop implementation plan.
  • Supervise and facilitate soil sample collection from three potato growing regions of the study (Kasur, Depalpur, Multan) and analysis of those soil samples from accredited laboratory.
  • Suggest recommendations (separately for each of the region) to increase the soil health based on laboratory reports in realm of agrobiodiversity and around focused areas including agro-forestry, rotation cropping, IPM, integrated soil fertility management practices, restoration practices.
  • The template will be finalized after consultation with CABI team and donor team. After the feedback and comments of the donor team, the required changes will be made to the report and final version of the report will be submitted to CABI Project Manager.

Participate in stakeholder workshop and regular catch up meetings with donor to present updates and findings of the study, and have feedback to be incorporated in report.

Participate in team planning workshop.

Travel to the project area when and where necessary.

Provide regular updates to CABI Project Manager and other stakeholders as per instructions of Project Manager.


The selected consultant should meet following requirements for the consultancy:

  • At least master’s degree in agriculture, environmental studies or a relevant field. Preference will be given to Ph.D., candidates in relevant fields.
  • Minimum of 07 years of professional experience in soil and environment sector.
  • Competent knowledge in soil science especially focused areas like agrobiodiversity, agro-forestry, rotation cropping, IPM, integrated soil fertility management practices, rrestoration practices in Pakistan.
  • Analytical capacity to review, correlate and synthesize information from secondary data; ability to develop analytical reports with sustainable recommendations.
  • Good capacity to coordinate and facilitate different stakeholders.
  • The consultant should be able to work to deadlines, under pressure and undertake independent problem-solving.
  • Full command on Microsoft applications (word, power point, excel) and internet usage.


The consultant will work closely with CABI team and also work in close coordination with CABI Project Manager.

The consultant will submit following reports;

  • Inception Report: This will include detailed plan of work mentioning outlines of study, methodologies, timelines etc.
  • Draft Report: Report will clearly state the findings from stakeholders’ discussions, laboratory reports, field visits along with recommendations for workable interventions to enhance organic matters in the soil.
  • Final Report: This will include the incorporation of feedback from CABI Team and donor team through a consultation workshop or meetings. This report will clearly determine the soil health in the respective areas and opportunities for its conservation in realm of agrobiodiversity in potato landscape and for workable interventions to enhance organic matters in the soil. It will be supported by a power point presentation to provide a summary of the study completed.


The consultancy/assignment is for One month (4 weeks) starting from December 2022. The work will start immediately after signing of the contract.

Logistics and Administrative Support

The consultant will be responsible for providing her/his own working station (laptop, internet, phone, scanner, printer etc). The project will only facilitate the logistics (travel and accommodation) during the meetings and consultation process with identified national stakeholders. The remuneration will be awarded based on the qualification and experience of the selected consultant. Consultant will not admissible for any payment beyond the end date of the contract.
